🌮Tu Madre in Santa Monica is serving tacos with some seriously creative twists!
You’ve had tacos before, but probably not like these. For this Santa Monica restaurant review, we went through everything from street corn and taquitos to Baja seafood tacos and Korean-inspired fusion tacos. 🔥
We started with the Street Corn, coated with corn husk butter, chipotle aioli, queso fresco, and Tajín. 🌽 Then came the crispy Potato Taquitos with avocado salsa and panela cheese, followed by the Crispy Cauliflower covered in chipotle aioli and Parmesan.
Then it was taco time. 🌮
The Baja Sure Tacos came topped with poblano ranch slaw, pico de gallo, and chipotle aioli. We tried all four versions: tamarind grilled shrimp, sweet chile tempura shrimp, tempura rock cod, and grilled rock cod. I loved getting to compare the lighter grilled seafood with those crispy tempura versions.
The Madres Fusion Tacos took things in a completely different direction with cashew salsa macha, yuzu-kosho slaw, and pickled onions. We tried the KBBQ beef, hot honey fried chicken, and yakitori chicken. 🌶️
To drink, we cooled things down with two agua frescas: the floral and tart Cabo with hibiscus, rose water, lime, and agave, and the refreshing Cancun Fresca with coconut, cucumber, lemon, and agave. 🥥🌺
And we still saved room for the Vegan Salted Chocolate Mousse, made with silken tofu, mole spices, cashews, and raspberry. 🍫
What makes Tu Madre fun is the variety. You can go from Mexican street-food flavors to seafood and Asian-inspired tacos all in one meal.
